Sarah Carrington

Sarah Carrington is a contemporary landscape artist whose evocative paintings explore the ever-changing coastlines of Scotland and Ireland.  Now based on the north coast of Ireland, her work is deeply rooted in a lifelong connection to the sea, inspired by childhood journeys to Scotland's west coast and sailing around the Hebrides.

After graduating in 1999 with an MA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of Edinburgh and Edinburgh College of Art, Sarah established herself as a full-time professional artist following a sell-out degree show. Over the past two decades she has built a distinguished career, exhibiting extensively throughout the UK.

Working across acrylic, oil, ink, emulsion and mixed media, Sarah creates richly textured paintings that capture not only the physical character of the landscape but also its atmosphere and emotional resonance. She often incorporates materials such as sand, chalk and gold leaf, layering surfaces to echo the weathered textures of the shoreline and the shifting qualities of light, sea and sky.

Rather than documenting a specific location, Sarah's paintings seek to convey the experience of place - the vastness of an open horizon, the rhythm of the tide, the drama of changing weather and the quiet moments found along the coast. Sketches, photographs and time spent immersed in the landscape inform work that is completed in the studio, where memory and observation combine to create expressive, atmospheric compositions.

Alongside her studio practice, Sarah regularly leads workshops, artist talks and painting demonstrations, sharing her passion for landscape painting with schools, community groups and private students.

Her work is held in public and private collections throughout the UK and continues to celebrate the enduring connection between people, place and the natural world.
