Tommy Fitchet is a contemporary landscape artist whose predominantly abstract work is inspired by nature, the Scottish landscape, and the shifting light of the seasons.
His paintings are instinctive and organic, embracing fluidity and movement, and are shaped as much by his surroundings as by his emotional response to place. From an early age, art - particularly abstraction - has been his most natural form of expression, allowing him to distil experience, mood and memory, while offering a quiet refuge from the pressures of everyday life.
“I think of my work as organic. Each piece is moulded by my surroundings and my emotions. Since childhood, art, especially abstract art, has been the most natural way for me to express myself and to step away from the noise of everyday life.
I work across many mediums, but I find my paintings are at their most fluid and expressive when created directly onto glass. This approach allows me to achieve a unique depth of tone and colour, a freedom of mark-making, and a distinctive interplay with light.”
Whether responding to the urban landscape of the city or the rugged coastlines and shorelines of Scotland, Fitchet seeks to capture fleeting moments - those brief instances when light breaks through cloud, illuminates land or sea, and leaves a lasting emotional imprint. It is this quiet, transient beauty that lies at the heart of his practice.
Tommy Fitchet has exhibited widely across the UK, and his work is held in private collections internationally.
