Born in 1959 in Nineva, Northern
Iraq but having adopted Scotland as his home, Nael Hanna is now regarded as one
of the most significant contemporary landscape painters living in the UK
today. Nael came to the UK in 1983 following
an award of a scholarship to study at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art,
Dundee.
After graduating with First Class
Honours, Nael went on to study in Florence, having been awarded the Royal
Scottish Academy John Kinross Scholarship, before returning to the rural Angus
countryside where he made his home.
Inspired by the raw power and drama of the Scottish North East Coastline,
Nael is now internationally renowned for his highly expressive work.
