Mairi Clark began her career as a painter after studying at Chelsea College and Central St Martins School of Art in London, gaining a BA(Hons) in Fine Art.
Many of Mairi’s evocative paintings are inspired by the Scottish coastline - the ever changing interplay between sea, sky and landscape affect colour and mood and this is evident in her work. Using mainly oil paint for its rich, deep and subtle qualities, she scratches into the surface creating textural effects. Her passion is obvious in the energetic application of colliding layers of paint creating a tapestry of colour emphasising the atmosphere and changing weather conditions.
“It is very important to me to capture a free and energetic mood in my work”.
