Following retirement from her profession as a doctor in the neonatal service of her local NHS, Heather set course in a creative direction studying Art and Design and then Photography.
During her college experience she was introduced to clay and the freedom and immediacy of hand-building with clay suited perfectly her professionally ingrained need to be in control.
Ironically, she then relinquishes control to allow a smoke-firing process to finish her work, imbuing an energy which is unpredictable but rewarding and exciting.
Heather takes her inspiration from the natural world - the mountains, the sea, the rocks, the rivers and glaciers. It’s the energy in the wind and the water. It’s the colour and flow of the seasons. Building with clay lets Heather capture just a little of that and bring it close.
