Alan Bennett attended Edinburgh College of Art in the early 1980s and has exhibited in numerous public and private galleries, including exhibiting in the RSA annual exhibitions. All of Alan’s paintings are painted with acrylic paint, building up translucent layers of colour working finely with a small brush. This is a process that takes time and requires a lot of patience.
Inspiration for Alan’s work comes from a range of sources - geometric abstract compositions and themes of harmony and balance. His highly detailed still life works explore these ideas further, as he seeks to go beyond the mundane reality of the objects in their setting. He looks for an ambiguity of time and place while enjoying the visual contrasts of different material surfaces.
