Jonathan Robertson was born in Banff in 1947 and trained at Glasgow School of Art. He has exhibited widely at home and abroad including the Artists Union Gallery Moscow, Barbican, Royal Glasgow Institute, Royal Scottish Academy, Scottish Society of Artists, Smith Institute Stirling and the Mall Galleries, London, with his highly collectable work represented in many institutional collections.
Jonathan is also known for his printmaking techniques but it is his oil paintings that have brought an increasing following with recollections of fisherfolk and coastal life in the area where he grew up providing a rich source of inspiration for his paintings. Using a background and remembered tales of the area to produce timeless pieces that are colourful and populated with sturdy, naïve figures in narrative poses, each infused with a natural wit and good humour.
