Philip Edwards is a graduate of Edinburgh University. He also studied at Florence Academy of Art, where he spent two separate overseas study periods. His university dissertation was on the restoration of oil paintings, which led from studying old master drawing and painting techniques at the Florence Academy of Art.
Phil Edwards is a keen hillwalker and climber and his current work is greatly inspired by climbing and hiking in the Scottish highlands.
‘I am fiercely proud of Scotland’s natural beauty, and love the feeling one gets at the summit of a Munro — that sense of a personal connection to, and almost an ownership of, the land itself. Light is probably the most important thing in my work — its play and its transient nature, especially in the highlands.’
