Lily graduated from Edinburgh College of Art, in Fine Art Painting in 2016 and is now based in Glasgow. With a number of successful shows already behind her, Lily’s work draws elements from the human architecture of old masters, and places them in a contemporary aesthetic.
“I am drawn to the fleeting nature of the painterly gesture. Working in the grey area between figuration and abstraction my work looks to transcend the boundary between the two. The transient qualities inherent in painting are integral to my working process. For me, the form has the ability to connect with timeless human experience. I draw elements from the human architecture and brushwork of old masters, taking historic images and placing them in a contemporary aesthetic, building on the inspiration of artists from Peter Paul Rubens and Eugene Delacroix to Cecily Brown”
