Featured Artist - April 2011

This month we are highlighting the work of young artist Laura Kearney alongside our gallery regulars. Laura's elegant figurative paintings catch intimate detail - the sheen of silk, lightfall and shade on skin, the texture of hair - observations that elude camera portraits. Her paintings celebrate allure, poise and attraction yet there is an element of tristesse in her models, isolated in a moment of stillness from their surroundings.

Laura graduated with a Diploma in Graphic Design in 2000, For the past four years she has worked as studio assistant to artist Gerard Burns, widely recognised as a master of figurative painting in dramatic settings and on a heroic scale, during which time she has developed and refined her own painting style. She now paints full time from her own studio.
