Profile of Jacqueline Orr RSW RGI

Jacqueline Orr studied Drawing & Painting at the Glasgow School of Art (1979 - 1983) under John Cunningham, Jack Knox, Barbara Rae and James D Robertson.
Whilst Jacqui started off studying Printed Textiles at the GSA, she quickly realised that she would never be a successful textile designer so she switched to the Drawing & Painting department. There she was fortunate enough to study under some of the most accomplished visual artists of our time and feels exceptionally privileged to have had James D Robertson as her mentor from 2005 until his death in 2010.

Jacqui has been painting professionally since 1995 and exhibiting regularly within the UK. In 2007, she became an elected member of The Royal Scottish Society Of Painters In Watercolour and in 2013, she became an elected member of The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts.
In 2013, Jacqui was awarded one of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh residencies in Collioure provided by L'association Charles Rennie Mackintosh en Roussillon. This was a fascinating experience for her as an artist and she is currently working towards a solo exhibition based on the residency. As a painter, Jacqui tends to be drawn to subjects that visually stimulate her. In addition, the process and the craft of making paintings are very important to her, so draughtsmanship, mark making, composition and the intelligent use of colour are all key tenets of her work.
